Vincent - Brandon Simoniette’s basket with 26 seconds left helped Warren High claim a 54-53 win over visiting Fort Frye Friday night.
The Cadets (4-4) took a 53-52 lead on Zane Greenleaf’s bucket in the final minutes before Simoniette drove the lane and put in the go-ahead basket. Nic Hart’s 3-point attempt rimmed out and Brady Schilling’s tip at the buzzer was off the mark as the Warriors (7-3) held on.
“We knew it would be a battle,” said Warren head coach Blane Maddox. “We let them get some confidence there at the end of the second quarter and they kept that momentum going into the third and really put us into a deep hole. I was glad to Simoniette come through and hit that big game-winner.”
The game was tightly-contested in the first quarter as neither team led by more than three points. Seth Dennis’ 3 put Warren up 18-16 by the end of the period.
