Hayley Snyder became the first girl wrestler to commit to college wrestling in Warren High School history Wednesday.
Snyder signed with Siena Heights University, where she plans to major in early education. The Saints compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
“I chose Siena Heights because of my familiarity with the coach and the girls on the team were so welcoming during my visit,” Snyder said. “I also like the small school atmosphere, and I felt like it was the best fit for me.
Snyder has a 75-49 career record with the Warriors. She’s undefeated in girls competition and is currently ranked No. 10 in the country at 112 pounds in the USA Wrestling National Rankings.
Snyder is one of the most decorated athletes in Warren history. She’s a three-time state champion — 110 pounds as a junior and 101 pounds and a sophomore and freshman.
She placed seventh last season in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference, becoming the first girl to do so in the 68-year history of the tournament.
Snyder was the USA Today High School Female Wrestling Athlete of the Year for Ohio in 2021, is a member of the Ohio Girls National Team and was the 2022 Ohio Girls Freestyle State Champion.
