Muskingum - Warren made its presence felt in the relay events at Thursday’s Division II Region 7 track meet at Muskingum University.
Both boys and girls 4×800 teams punched their tickets to state Thursday, while both 4×4 teams and the boys 4×2 team qualified for Saturday’s finals. A top four finish Saturday will earn a berth to next week’s state meet in Columbus.
The All-Ohio quartet of Ethan Yost, Preston Rowland-Demster, Jake Herriott and Trent Sayre clocked in at 7 minutes, 59.30 seconds Thursday to claim a regional championship. The foursome was the runner-up at last year’s state meet and is looking to win a state title this year. Rowland-Demster had missed time with an injury this season, but returned Thursday to help the team come in first.
The Warriors’ 4×4 team also came in first in the preliminaries. Sayre, Yost, Isaiah Kitts and Justin Lough produced a time of 3:24.86 and will look for a fourth-or-better finish Saturday to earn a trip to state. The 4×2 team of Yost, Kitts, Lough and Sayre came in fourth in the prelims (1:31.01) and also advanced to the finals.
Individually, Lough advanced to the finals in the 300 hurdles (38.99; 2nd) and 110 hurdles (15.93; 8th), while Kitts moved on to the 400 fnals with a time of 50.71 (4th). Liam Kellar just missed advancing to state in the pole vault, finishing fifth with a mark of 13 feet, 2 inches. He’ll get another shot at earning a state berth Saturday in the 1600.
