New Concord - Warren’s Erin Bogard set a pole vault record and the Warrior boys had a dominating performance to conclude Saturday’s Division II, Region 7 meet at Muskingum University.
Bogard cleared 12 feet, 5 inches to not only stand atop the podium and qualify for this week’s Ohio state track meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, but she also broke the regional record of 12-4 set back in 2007 by Indian Valley’s Kayla Caldwell.
The Warren boys of head coach Tyler Schaad capped the regional with a victory in the 4×400 and finished as the team champion with 69 points. That total easily topped runner-up Sheridan (52) as Ridgewood (38), Steubenville (36) and West Holmes (32) rounded out the top five.
Justin Lough, Trent Sayre, Isaiah Kitts and Ethan Yost ran a regional-best 3:25.58 in the 4×400.
The Warriors barely qualified as a team in the 4×200 as the same quartet placed fourth with a time of 1:31.13, which just nipped fifth-place West Holmes (1:31.24).
In the boys 1600, it was an all-Warren showdown between Sayre and fellow senior teammate Jake Herriott, who crossed the finish line in 4:21.37 with Sayre right behind at 4:21.89.
