Vincent - The Warren boys track team has a chance to do some serious damage at the state track meet this weekend at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Warriors will be sending six athletes to the meet, and they’ll combine to compete in six different events. All six Warriors competed at state last year and have a good idea of what to expect in Columbus.
“We’re feeling good,” said first-year Warren boys track coach Tyler Schaad.
“We have a lot of guys in multiple events. It’s been fun. We always knew we’d have a chance to be in the position we’re in. But now that we’re here, it’s kind of crazy to think about.”
Scheduled to kick things off for Warren at 1:45 p.m. Friday is the 4×800 relay team. The foursome of Ethan Yost, Preston Rowland-Demster, Jake Herriott and Trent Sayre posted a regional time of 7:59.30 to claim the title. That is the second best among the field at state, with Shelby coming in with a 7:56.03 regional mark. Those are the only sub-eight-minute times in the field.
“Us and Shelby have the two best times,” Schaad said. “This is the same group of guys back from last year. They know what they’re capable of. They just have to put it all together.”
