Belpre - Warren started off decent and got a little better with every passing quarter in Saturday night’s 68-54 win on the road over the Belpre Golden Eagles.
The Warriors scored 14 points in the opening quarter and increased their total by two points each period as they notched their 10th win of the season in front of a jammed packed crowd at Belpre High School.
Warren junior Joel Chevalier tossed in a career-high 24 points as the Warriors held off a late charge by Belpre and pulled away to the 12-point win.
“I thought Joel played an outstanding game for us tonight,” said Warren head coach Blane Maddox. “He brings toughness to our team, he attacks the basket and he can hit the 3. He played solid defense and he really wanted this game bad tonight.”
Belpre trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before rallying to cut the lead to three midway through the final quarter.
Warren led by seven at the half and took their first double-digit lead of the game early in the third quarter when junior post player Jake Baumgard completed an old-fashioned 3-point play to give the Warriors a 39-28 lead.
